voltage stabilizer หรืออีกชื่อหนึ่งที่เรียกคือ voltage regulator คืออุปกรณ์ที่ใช้ควบคุมและปรับแรงดันไฟฟ้าด้าน output ให้คง แม้ว่า input voltage จะเปลี่ยนแปลงไปอย่างไรก็ตาม voltage stabilizer ก็ยังคงควบคุมคุมแรงดันด้าน output ให้คงที่เสมอ โดยการเปลี่ยนแปลงแรงดันด้าน input จะมี rang กำหนดของช่วงแรงดัน ตามแต่ละ brand ที่ design โดยการ design ของ Stabilizer มีอยู่หลัก ๆ 2 ประเภท คือ
1.
Electromechanical
regulator โดยจะควบคุมแรงดันด้าน output ให้คงที่ด้วย servomechanism โดยจะปรับแรงดันด้าน output ด้วย servo motor ซึ่งจะมีวงจรตรวจเช็คแรงดันด้าน

ตลอดเวลาและส่ง feed back เพื่อให้ servo motor ปรับ transformer tap โดยหลักการของการเปลี่ยนจำนวนหม้อแปลงทำให้แรงดัน

2.
AC Voltage
Stabiliser โดยจะควบคุมแรงดันด้าน output ให้คงที่ด้วยหลักการเหนี่ยวนำของสนามแม่เหล็ก โดยหลักการสร้าง voltage regulator จะวงจรตรวจสอบแรงดันด้าน output ตลอดเวลา และเมื่อแรงดันด้าน input มีการเปลี่ยนแปลง วงจรควบคุมกระแส DC จะทำหน้าที่ควบคุมกระแส DC ที่ไหนผ่านขอลวด
TD2
และ TD1 ซึ่งการที่กระแส DC ไหลผ่านที่ชุดขดลวดชุด

จะให้ให้ค่า inductance เปลี่ยนแปลงไป โดยหากมีกระแส DC ไหลผ่านชุดขวดลวด

เพิ่มขึ้น ค่า inductance ของขดลวดจะลดลง ซึ่งการเปลี่ยนแปลงค่า inductance ของชุดขดลวด control จะทำให้มีการปรับ
voltage
regulator ด้าน output ให้คงที่ตลอดเวลา ซึ่ง voltage regulator ที่ใช้หลักการนี้จะไม่มีส่วนที่เคลื่อนไหวด้าน mechanical ทำให้ไม่จำเป็นต้องบำรุงรักษา

หลักการเลือก voltage regulator จะต้องคำนึงถึง
ค่าต่าง ๆ ดังนี้

kVA เป็นค่าที่บอกขนาดของ
Load ที่ใช้
2.
กระแส ของ voltage stabilizer ที่สามารถจ่ายให้กับ load ได้
3.
Input rang การทำงานของ stabilizer ว่าการเปลี่ยนแปลงแรงดันไฟฟ้าด้าน
input ว่ามี rang ขนาดเท่าไหร่
4.
Output voltage regulator กี่ % เช่น ±
0.5 % หรือ ± 1 %
5.
ประเภทของ stabilizer ว่าทำงานแบบไหน
เป็น servo mechanical , transformer tapping , magnetic stabilizer
